Shema

A talented and natural performer, Shema specialises in Egyptian and Oriental style Bellydance, Tannoura, Fire Sword and Moroccan Tanjaoua Sha'abi as well as other Folkloric styles from across the Arabic World.

Shema is passionate about encouraging both students and audiences to understand the connection between music, culture and technique and consequently is an excellent instructor, now teaching and performing across North America, Morocco, Egypt and Europe including major events such as 'Fantasia (UK)', 'Celebrating Dance (UK)' and 'International Bellydance Conference of Canada'.

She also lectures and writes articles and reviews which have been published in North America and Europe and has been involved in many diverse projects such as Music Videos, TV shows and Radio presenting. Shema is a member of the Arabesque Dance Company and Orchestra in Toronto, Canada both as a dancer, instructor and musician, playing Arabic Violin (Kemanja).

What

Whirling and Tannoura

Learn the basics of Turns, Whirling and Tannoura (Egyptian Folk dance with bright, heavy circular skirts used for tricks and spinning) including the history, posture, arm positions, how to avoid dizziness and stay grounded on the spot. We will explore how important breathing is to stay relaxed into the dance and how to build up momentum as well as travelling whilst turning. Each dancer will work at their own pace and will be paired up to ensure complete safety.

No skirts required, although please feel free to bring a Tannoura if you own one. Suitable for all levels
